Soft Tissue Therapy

Niggling back and neck pain? Sports-related muscle pain or injury? Increased pain when sitting, bending or kneeling?

Our professional, affordable Soft Tissue Massage Therapy in Amersham is ideal for rehabilitating all kinds of muscle and other soft tissue pains, strains and injuries.

What is Soft Tissue Therapy?

Soft Tissue Therapy involves using regular and advanced massage techniques to target and relieve tension in soft tissue, such as your muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia – the band of connective tissue surrounding the muscle.

Soft tissue tension and soreness arises from overworking the muscle. This can come about from doing high-energy sports and aerobic activities to everyday actions, such as prolonged sitting at work, gardening, lifting and walking.

I am a qualified soft tissue therapist (BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy) and member of ISRM (Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage).

I also specialise in treating gluteal and psoas muscle pain and dysfunction. (John Gibbons, Glutes and Psoas Master-Class, Oxford University Sports Ground, April 2017).

I’m also trained in Kinesiology Taping, which involves using strong, flexible Kinesio tape to support damaged muscles and ligaments, helping them to rejuvenate faster.

My soft tissue massage and other treatments are available at my home-based facilities in Amersham, Buckinghamshire – a short distance from Beaconsfield, Chesham, The Chalfonts, Aylesbury, Rickmansworth and High Wycombe.

What are the benefits of Soft Tissue Massage Therapy?

Alongside reducing pain and soreness, our soft tissue massage treatment delivers a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Increased movement and flexibility
  • Improved muscle function and blood flow, boosting removal of metabolites by the lymph system
  • Increased muscle elasticity, preventing further damage occurring
  • Reduction in scar tissue, which stops muscles from working properly causing pain
  • Improved relaxation and stress relief

We treat many athletes and sportspeople’s soft tissue conditions. It’s especially beneficial for:

  • Reducing muscle tension and soreness after training and event competitions
  • Quicker recovery between training sessions
  • Improving faster from injuries
  • Reducing risk of further damage to vital muscles and other soft tissues

What does Soft Tissue Massage involve?

Unlike a typical salon massage, our soft tissue treatment incorporates long and kneading Swedish Massage strokes with specialist stretching and neuromuscular techniques. The applied pressure helps break down and realign tangled and torn muscle fibers, supporting and speeding up the healing process.

Each massage is tailored to treat your precise trigger points (muscle adhesions or ’knots’) and any radial pain you experience.

Following an indulgent Christmas, Sean decides to enter a 5km fun-run and starts training right away. A once fit footballer and London policeman, he thinks training will be easy but three weeks later, he feels a sharp pain in his middle left calf.

After resting for a few weeks, Sean tries again, and to his surprise, he pulls the same muscle and goes back to sofa rest. A week later Sean visits Amersham Sports Massage for initial treatment. This instantly relieves the pain and sets the right course for Sean’s muscles to recover properly.

Following two further sessions of massaging and stretching the soft tissue, Sean makes a full recovery. The difference this time is that the muscle injury has been manipulated and re-modeled correctly. To help prevent the injury re-occurring, we give Sean a positive rehabilitation exercise plan and stretching routine to follow.
